Circulation Services
Book ReturnPatrons are encouraged to return library material in the outside drop box, during operating and non-operating hours. Patrons are responsible for material left in the book return. Material found in the book return is checked in at the start of each library service day, and is considered to be returned on that day. Charges for overdue material will be recorded in the patron's record.
Circulation RestrictionsThe circulation of material is restricted to a limited number of items per subject per patron at any given time. The maximum number is 50. A maximum of 5 videocassettes, 5 DVDs and 5 CDs may be borrowed at any one time. The current issues of a magazine may not be borrowed. Most reference material may not be borrowed
Loan PeriodThe normal circulation period is three weeks. Titles which have been recently acquired and/or are in high demand are available for a two week loan only. This includes, but is not limited to, titles for which reserves exist. Videocassettes, CDs and DVDs for Children and Young Adults are available for a three week loan and can be renewed. Music CDs and DVD movies for adults are available for a one week loan and can be renewed. Some reference material is available for a 3 day loan.
Overdue FinesBelleville Public library has a policy of collecting charges on overdue materials to encourage prompt return. This revenue is added to the Library's operating budget.
Overdue materials are charged on a service day basis. Fines of $.20 per item per day are charged for all overdue material. Overdue Reference and Interlibrary Loan items are $1.00 per day.
Payment Method: Cash or cheque. NSF cheques will be charged a service charge.
Maximum overdue fine per item is:
- $25.00 for Reference, Interlibrary Loan items and Videocassettes
- $15.00 for Adult books, talking books, government publications and CD-ROMs
- $10.00 for Children's books, talking books and board books
- $10.00 for mass market paperbacks
- $3.00 for magazines, and vertical file envelopes or envelopes and all contents
- $1.00 for a single item from a vertical/ picture file
- $50.00 for maximum overdue fine per patron card for borrowed items that have been returned. This does not include charges for lost items and lost processing fees. Please also note that $50.00 is the maximum overdue fine, only if the $50.00 is paid in full. If the $50.00 is not paid in full, the actual amount of the overdue fine will require payment.
RenewalsA maximum of one renewal can be made on most items, provided that the item is not on reserve for another patron. Renewals may be made in person or by telephoning the library during regular business hours at 968-6731 ext. 2231 or through the automated library telephone service (TeleCirc) at 968-4708 or through the library website (click on Library Catalogue then go to my account). Your library card number is required as well as your PIN number (the last 4 digits of your telephone number). If there is a problem signing on or renewing on your online account, please call Circulation at 968-6731 ext. 2231.
Reserves
A maximum of 5 reserves per person may be requested for placement by staff at any given time. Patrons may also place a maximum of 5 reserves via Library Catalogue. Reserves are not permitted on reference or periodical material. Reserves may be placed on videocassettes, DVDs, and CDs.
For Interlibrary Loans (other than Quinte West items) please call the information services (613-968-6731 #2247) at the library, as these cannot be reserved online.
How to reserve books
1. Search the library catalogue and click on REQUEST ITEM button underneath each book title.
2. Enter your barcode and PIN Number.
3. Then a screen will show the date until which the REQUEST will be in effect, indicating you will be notified by phone when it is available.
4. And then click REQUEST
If your barcode won't work, your card may have expired or be about to expire. Please call the library (968-6731) or use Telecirc (968-4708) to renew books. If you renew books on their due date, please do so during during operating hours of the library to prevent overdue fines. However, you must come into the library with I.D showing name and current address to renew your card, which has te be done every year.
Interlibrary loan books may not be renewed online or by Telecirc; you must call us.
