Thursday September 23rd at 6:00 pm in Gallery 1: "The Brutal Telling" with Louise Penny
Murder, Revenge and a Cold-Blooded Killer – at your Public Library in September!
If you like a good mystery then drop by Belleville Public Library on September 23rd at 6pm. Canadian mystery author Louise Penny reveals all (well almost) about the amazing success of her "Inspector Gamache” crime series.
Fifth in the series, "The Brutal Telling” has been nominated for Ontario's Evergreen Award this year, but her success extends far beyond her native Canada. Not only is she is the first Canadian winner of the prestigious U.S. Agatha Award she made history by winning it three years in a row! It has also been shortlisted for the Anthony Award and the Macavity Award and the British Dagger, while spending three weeks on the NYT bestseller list. "Still Life”, the first Inspector Gamache novel, is a nominee for the 2010 Barry Award for Best Crime Novel of the Decade.
Penny sets her series in and around a fictional Quebec village called Three Pines, but these are not just another set of cozy mysteries. She is an excellent wordsmith of whom the Globe and Mail says
"Penny isn't Christie. For one thing she's a far more accomplished craftsman, relying far more on depth of character than formula. She also likes a complex plot that owes more to human emotion and psychology than clockwork timing. This puts her closer to P.D James”
High praise indeed, so to find out why her books are so good, come and ask her yourself – September 23rd, at 6:30pm in Gallery 1 on the third floor. Don't miss this opportunity to "cross-examine” a real-life who-dun-it writer! For further details call 613-968-6731 X2235
